Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Ethno-religious politics plays a significant role in shaping governance and political outcomes in many parts of Nigeria. In Jos North LGA, Plateau State, the intersection of ethnic and religious identities has a profound impact on political behavior, representation, and governance. Ethnic and religious affiliations often influence party preferences, voting patterns, and political mobilization (Bello & Suleiman, 2023). These dynamics can lead to both political inclusivity and division, depending on how politicians leverage these identities to appeal to voters.
This study aims to investigate the influence of ethno-religious politics on governance in Jos North LGA, focusing on how ethnic and religious factors shape the political landscape and affect the functioning of local government.
